Introduction

The induction is a period of introduction for a new employee to provide them with all relevant knowledge and information required to do their job to an acceptable standard. This will also include working within your health and safety training and policy and procedures.

It takes time to decide how to spend a large amount of money. This is why when recruiting a new member of staff of which you are investing money for potentially the next two years or more it is vital that you use your induction process to the full.

E.g. If you were spending the equivalent of your employee’s first full year’s wages on an expensive new car how would you start? You may look at all the deals available; try different models, search all garages, test drive and search for the best value. You will then take the time to familiarise yourself with the controls.

Many organisations make the mistake of spending less than an hour to induct staff and then expect them to move straight in to the job. For best results you should provide formal training or support.
